I’ve done a few hikes since August, but it’s been tough to have a set schedule to post. There’s so much stuff to do and so little time to do it. Work has been busy, so setting aside the time to put toward social media has seemed overwhelming these past two years. I am actively working on that, though.
My latest hike was to Mt Tom in Fryeburg, Maine. I’ve been having some driving anxiety from driving crappy vehicles for the last number of years. Now that I have a Tacoma with 42k miles on it, I’m still having bouts of anxiety driving too far from home. I purchased the truck for cheap, it’s a 2013 and had some rust issues. I got the frame scraped and coated, but the TPMS light is on even though all five tires are inflated to specs. The rims on it are rusty, so I’ll just take care of that when I get new ones. It drives as nice as an old Tacoma does, but the low miles means I’ll have plenty of time to fix all its little nuances, and get over my fear of breaking down.
Anyways, back to the hike. I decided to head over to Mt Tom for sunset. I’ve never hiked it despite living a few miles away from it. Hiking to an easterly view for sunset seems counterintuitive, but I like to hike in the daytime at least once before attempting a dark hike for sunrise. Now that I’ve done it for sunset and hiked down in the dark, I know what to expect. Plus I love alpenglow. Absolutely stunning.

The trail starts off at the Mt Tom Preserve on Menotomy Rd. It meanders through beautiful open forests, and showcases a few old foundations of 1800’s homesteads. Around the one mile mark, it becomes a moderately steep climb up the southwest ridge for 0.7 miles.

At the summit, easterly views of Pleasant Mountain.
