It’s been a minute, I know. I’ve been incredibly busy with work and life. I rearranged the store and I’m almost ready to open back up. I made a sourdough starter and have been baking a lot of bread. I’ve been working a lot as gold prices are high. I started Elevation 6288 back up serving only shaved ice. I need to find balance. I did find a moment to take an overnight on the southern end of The Cohos Trail at the end of July.

I started my hike just before noon on a random Tuesday. My plan was to head approximately four miles up to Mount Resolution to spend the night photographing the Milky Way. I stopped at the viewpoint just before Mount Crawford for a snack and a drink. I was really hot and there was no wind. I had brought two liters of water with me. The Davis Path isn’t the most reliable when it comes to water and it hadn’t rained in weeks. I did bring my filter just in case, and to my surprise, I found a running stream just before Mount Resolution.

It was still early, so I decided to take a little trek over to the south knob of Mount Resolution. It was nice, probably a better spot for photographing the southern sky, but I preferred the View of the Presidential range better on Resolution proper. This would become the better choice for what I was about to see later on in the evening.

I made my way back to the main peak to watch the sunset and get a quick nap in before I’d spend the rest of the night taking pictures. I fell asleep and when I awoke, I thought I had overslept as the night sky began to get lighter. I checked my watch and it was only 10:30pm. I looked up and saw white streaks darting across the sky and pointed my iPhone toward the Presidential range. It was the aurora borealis.

I grabbed my camera and busted up old tripod, (I really need to replace it, but it is so light) and headed over to the summit. I took photos until the aurora borealis faded out. I turned around and started shooting the Milky Way. The aurora came back a few times throughout the night, but was never as intense as the first. after I had had my fill of photography, I managed to get in another quick nap before the hike out at sunrise.

I have Cohos Trail Day Nine’s blog post written up and I just need to add a few photos. It should be live within the next few days. I’ve decided that I will most likely do write ups on all my hikes from this point forward. Thanks for stopping in, I’ll be back soon.
